About the project

This extensive interior remodel in Grandville, MI, focused on updating and enhancing all of the main living spaces. The project included a complete kitchen redesign, where existing bulkheads were removed and cabinetry reconfigured to optimize the layout. To tie the home together, we installed new Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) flooring, doors, and a fresh paint scheme throughout the entire main floor. Finally, we executed two full bathroom remodels for this home, including a custom tiled shower, to deliver a beautifully updated and stunning home interior.

Deck Replacement in Middleville, MI

We rebuilt every deck on this lakefront home in TimberTech PVC. Four decks, a front porch, and a beach patio, all replaced down to the framing.

About the Project

The original composite decking and vinyl railing on this lakefront home in Middleville were worn out. So we replaced all of it. TPC Construction did a full deck replacement covering every outdoor surface on the property: the stairs and walkway by the driveway, expanded rear deck, front porch, and beach patio with bench.

We didn't just lay new boards over the old framing. We took each structure down to the ground and re-framed it, then sealed every joist with butyl joist tape before replacing the first board. The new decks are TimberTech PVC decking with TimberTech Impressions white aluminum railing. Risers, fascia, and rim board are color matched PVC. We also used hidden fasteners everywhere, so you won't find a screw head anywhere on the finished deck.

The rear deck also got bigger. We joined the master bedroom deck to the main rear deck and pushed the main platform out 10 feet from the house, while keeping a 4 foot walkway off the kitchen and dining area. While we were there, we replaced the sunroom’s three support posts on new 42‑inch footings and swapped out six exterior and garage doors.

Our Work in Action

Complete Demo & Re-Framing: We pulled out the old composite decking, vinyl railing, and framing at every location and hauled it away. Next, we built new framing instead of re-surfacing the old one.
An Expanded Rear Deck: We connected the master bedroom deck to the main rear deck and extended the platform to 10′ from the house, keeping a 4′ walkway from the kitchen and dining area.
TimberTech PVC, Top to Bottom: PVC deck boards on every stair, landing, platform, and boardwalk. Risers, fascia, rim board, and retaining wall caps are all color matched PVC.
Hidden Fasteners Throughout: Every board was installed with concealed fasteners. No screw heads, nothing to snag.
Structural Sunroom Repair: Three rotted 6x6 posts came out. New 24″ footings went in, dug to 42″. Then we patched the concrete and power-washed it to match the existing exposed aggregate.
Door Package: Six doors replaced, including fire rated steel doors to both garages, glass column doors at the green room, and brand new brushed nickel handles.

Goes on top of every joist before the decking. It seals the screw holes so water cannot get into the framing.

Hidden fasteners on all the decking, plus color matched PVC on risers, fascia, and rim board for a cleaner edge.

Should I replace my deck or just resurface it?

If the framing is solid, resurfacing can work. But here’s the problem. Composite and vinyl decks from the early 2000s often sit on framing that has been soaking up water at every screw hole for 20 years. On this project we took everything down to the ground, re-framed, and sealed the new framing with butyl joist tape. That is the only way to be sure the structure lasts as long as the PVC on top of it.

Why PVC decking instead of composite or wood?

PVC has no wood in it. So it will not soak up water, rot, or grow mold, which matters a lot on a lake. TimberTech PVC also stays cooler on bare feet than most composites, and it holds its color far longer than stained wood. No sanding or sealing every year.
