About the project

This complete deck replacement in Grand Rapids, MI, delivered 700 square feet of low-maintenance outdoor living space, plus a new retaining wall. After removing all of the old decking and framing, we built a robust new treated frame to replace the aged structure. We ensured long-term structural integrity by adding flashing and joist protectant to the new framing. The project was completed with the installation of premium composite decking and aluminum railing for lasting aesthetics, transforming the yard into a durable, functional extension of the home.

Our Work in Action

  • Demo & New Framing: We began with the removal of the aged deck and installed a new, 700 sq ft treated frame secured by a new, flashed ledger board.
  • Enhanced Durability Measures: The new framing was protected with a butyl joist seal to significantly prolong the lifespan of the lumber, ensuring long-term structural integrity.
  • Composite Finish & Site Work: The deck was finished with low-maintenance composite decking and aluminum railing, plus the construction of an essential, new retaining wall.
